**Sorry up front for the wall of text, but felt it was needed in this case. I posted this here after doing so in the feedback discord wise. Sorry for the double post as I know I made something simpler first impressions last evening as well.**
Having slept on it and messed around with the UI changes again a bit at lunch today. There a few parts of the UI changes that needs to be worked on, in my mind, for the new way of doing things to not be a active downgrade in a few core parts from the older system. Primary two aspects with a lesser gripe I have with a third. Keep in mind, I'm not saying EVERYTHING is bad. Just the parts below is what kills the update for me personally.
The first part, and I will happily die on a hill on this point alone if I need to. Moving NPCs from one point of interest to another is HORRIBLE in this new update if your in a area with a lot of POIs in my experience. At least compared to what we had UI wise before.
As per this point, the first clip (One showing the sidebar) of the mini map which still uses the old system of moving npcs. I can move people from the Emberforge POI elsewhere and back in as little four left mouse clicks (Click the POI, Click the NPC, Click Move, Click New Location) and it's done. It's quick, efficient, and is easy to use. Even WITH the update's horribly scaling the size of the POI's to the point it's almost impossible to use the Mini map as you can see in the clip. It's still easy to move them around.
As per the second clip when trying to do the same on the main map. We have to click the poi, while trying to NOT drag/move it by mistake which I even did at one point in the clip not meaning to, then scroll down the POI text/sidebar to where the characters are pass all the character sheet details. Click the character I want to move which triggers the camera to auto zoom/lock at a certain distance 100% of the time. Which often, in crowded POI areas, means I have to then zoom in more so I can even attempt to click and drag the NPC in question out of the current POI to the one I desire them to move to. All the while, hoping I don't click on any words of any other POI or area by mistake as the select tool will then select THAT area/poi instead and I have to start at ground zero again.
Comparing the two clips, I was able to move npcs in the mini map 3-4 times in about 17 seconds and never ran into a major issue, barring the fact the mini map icons are so large it at times makes the mini map near unusable. To get the same 3-4 npc moves on the main map, which in theory SHOULD be easier and more intuitive to use. It takes me 45 seconds to a minute. Granted some of this will be improved by experience/using the system. But the system as it is right now, and yes I know things will be improved on/fixed as well, on the main map imo will NEVER be as quick and intuitive as the old system/mini map is for moving a Npc quickly from one place to another without some kind of minor overhaul of the system as it stands now.
SADLY, that was just the first part. But the other two are much simpler to show. My second largest issue with the UI change is the face the select tool highlights a POI if you hover over the name tag of the POI itself.
Again if you have one or two only in a area it's not bad. But as this clips shows, there are POI's I have NO choice but to zoom in if I wanted to target them because the name of another POI is behind/in front of the location. This likely wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the fact the UI as is constant is adjusting the zoom level, as I could zoom in and leave it that close. But near every time I click on a poi/character it gets set to a distance where at times I'm highlighting a POI that is over 500-700 KM away from where my mouse pointer is because the name of that other POI is so long.
Imo the simple fix here is to have the select tool ONLY highlight a POI if the mouse is over the orange POI icon itself. That change alone fixes this whole issue imo. I almost NEVER have POI's so click I can't put the mouse icon over one or the other cleanly. I can't say the same for the POI names as they always overlap in crowded areas.
LASTLY, and this is a short one as well.
There is something when clicking the middle mouse button that will sometimes reset the main map view back to it's default position as if clicking the geo center button on the bottom bar. I've always tended to use the middle mouse button to click/pan around, odd likely but it always and still does work in general. But I found I'm constantly getting reset to the same spot I start at when first opening the main map.
This is a minor thing as I can just adjust to using the pan button now more. But this just seems to be a bug that it randomly sends me off to the reset position on the world map.
On a last tangent on these points, and maybe this is just me since I mostly only play my own world and I created every NPC or POI. But what was the thought process of making us scroll down the side bar to reach the characters every single time we want to move someone? If I wanted to read/learn about someone/someplace, I could always have checked the POI directly with ease when playing a world. But the way it is right now, I always have to scroll pass all the character details JUST to be able to move the npc in the new UI system. While not a huge time sink, over months or years going forward it will add up time spent wise.
