I want to start by saying that the idea behind your game is genuinely exciting. When I discovered it, I was thrilled. I spent hours happily creating my characters, imagining the atmospheric stories we would tell. The interface is slick, and the concept of a fully-fledged AI-driven D&D game is a dream come true. But after trying to actually play, my excitement has turned into deep frustration. I feel like I bought a beautifully wrapped box, only to find it's mostly empty inside.
You are selling this as a complete game with working mechanics, but the reality is a constant, exhausting battle against the AI just to maintain a basic sense of logic. I've played for hours with a simple Gemini chatbot and a Google Doc to track my own inventory, and it was a smoother, more coherent experience than this. At least there, I knew what to expect. With your game, I'm paying $20 a month for an interface that looks the part but fundamentally fails to function as advertised. The feeling is that the shell was built to sell subscriptions, while the core AI that's supposed to power it is an afterthought that doesn't actually work with any of the systems you've built.
Here are the specific problems I, and many others from what I can see on forums, run into constantly:
The AI doesn't know what's happening. It frequently confuses which character is acting, mixing up my hero with an NPC or even teleporting NPCs around. In one memorable instance, my character and an NPC left her parents, traveled to a secluded cabin, and upon arrival, the parents were inexplicably already there waiting for us. It completely breaks any sense of a coherent world.
The AI doesn't see my character sheet. I meticulously filled out my stats, spells, and inventory, but for Franz, it might as well not exist. My carefully chosen skills and bonuses are ignored. When I gained a level, the feature to add expertise to two new skills was there, but there's no way to actually implement it, and the AI certainly doesn't account for it.
Combat and resource tracking is a chaotic mess. Damage is often applied twice to my character, or not at all. Spell slots are duplicated or never deducted. When I try to use the "manual" mode to input my own physical dice rolls, Franz often doesn't recognize them as a roll at all. He'll ask for separate attack rolls for each ray of a spell like Scorching Ray, but then only acknowledge one. The items in my inventory might as well be invisible to him, as he never checks for them.
The "smart" narrative is painfully repetitive. If Franz latches onto a single word or idea, the entire story becomes fixated on it. Every location has an "intricately carved wooden box." Every character is "not to be trifled with." You always feel like you're being watched. There's no depth, just the same handful of phrases recycled. Even worse, NPCs swing wildly from being deeply attached to your character to completely forgetting who you are just a few messages later.
Nothing feels real or permanent. The story resets on a whim. We'll be in the middle of a tense negotiation, and suddenly Franz writes, "You find yourselves back at the entrance to the dungeon. What do you do?" It's impossible to build any kind of long-term narrative or serious campaign when I have to spend every minute correcting, deleting, and re-directing the AI just to keep the basic scene straight. I can't even get through an hour or two of relaxed play without something breaking, let alone plan for a long, serious campaign.
I understand that the game might be in a beta phase. But you are not marketing it as a pre-alpha testbed. You are advertising features like dynamic NPCs, persistent memory, and a living world as if they are fully functional. They are not. The experience right now is of a very promising tech demo, not a $20 per month game. The core promise of your product—an AI that understands the game state it's supposed to be managing—simply does not work.
I genuinely want to love this game. I want to get lost in the worlds you're helping to build. But in its current state, it's an exhausting chore.
