Third Map Layer

First of all: I love the maps in f&f. However, I recently started planning my first own world and realized that my intuitive approach is only partially feasible because there is currently only a single world map and the POI battlemaps.

My suggestion would be to add a third map type or to reorganize the structure of the maps into three layers:

1) Highest level - The new world map:

The entire (world) map at the macro level, divided into regions, but there are no POIs. Travel is only between regions, not within regions (longer travel time), each of which functions individually like the current world map.

2) Middle level - Region maps: Basically what the world map currently is, representing a larger area with its own map, different sub-areas, and POIs (shorter travel times).

3) Lowest level - Points of Interest: Individual battle maps on the region maps, unchanged from the current POIs.

Here are some examples how that could be used:

A) Fantasy Kingdom

Layer 1 - Kingdom map with several cities

Layer 2 - Specific city map

Layer 3 - Building in a specific city

B) Cyberpunk Metropolis

Layer 1 - City map with several districts

Layer 2 - Specific district map

Layer 3 - Building in a specific district

C) SciFi Universe

Layer 1 - Galaxy map with several solar systems

Layer 2 - Specific solar system

Layer 3 - Planet in a specific solar system

In other words: Basically I suggest just having multiple smaller world maps that the player can teleport in between instead of having one big world map as of now.

The problem with the current system for me is that you can’t have both a world map and a city map at the same time without overwriting a part of the world map with a city map of another scale
