Hi, I really like the latest Workshop additions so far, they help world creators like myself immensly to create the campaign worlds in our heads with more control and details. Sorry for the incoming Wall of text bows.
I have a few small requests that might help navigating the self created Workshop-content a bit more though. Atm it is rather cluttered, especially when you create a lot of custom characters, custom items and spells for a campaign.
Request Nr.1: Please add a “From Workshop”-Button for characters and monsters as well.
I currently work on 2 maps more actively: a feudal japan based one and your typical run in the mill fantasy world. Both are lived in by a multitude of characters. Atm I can*t implement them as easily as custom classes or custom items. I have to open up a second tab and copy/paste manually everything atm, which is rather clunky and needs time. A “From Workshop”-Button would make the implementation process and campaign integration process way more easier and less time consuming.
Request Nr.2: Please add an option to implement custom Tabs under Characters, Items, Monsters and Spells.
What do I mean? Ever played Last Epoch or Path of Exile? There you can add custom named tabs in the storage/chest menu and sort things for yourself more freely.
At the moment my characters tab and my item tab specifically are really cluttered and also mixed up with other characters and items for other campaigns I plan to run. My custom spell tab will become cluttered as well because now we can finally create our own spells.
Because I have like 2 campaigns planned with way different themes it is not as easy to keep an overview about everything. Thing is: I might create several characters, items and spells, but maybe some were never met in a campaign or are so much liked that I want to use them in other campaigns as well.
That we are already able to store them in an overall database is awesome but when you are an overly creative and enthusiastic campaign builder like me, you have lots of ideas you wanna implement on the fly. Which ends in overly cluttering my overall database in the process. A better, more detailed navigation and sorting would help immensely.
My idea: I want to use an example here and I hope my butchery english won*t ruin what I try to explain. We are in the current Workshop-Database where all my characters are stored in. At the moment they are all mixed together, the fantasy ones, the d&d ones, the daggerheart ones, the feudal japansese ones.
Let me add a custom tab in this characters area.
I name it for example “Yamato” or “Feudal Japan” like the feudal japan campaign I wanna run. Then let me integrate all the characters I created in the normal workshop database specifically for the “Yamato”-campaign via 1 Button-click under that tab. They get sorted under that tab, which I can click on and then it shows me all the characters I integrated there. When I click on the tab again it hides them so that I can concentrate on other characters.
Let me add a second tab which I call for example “Iskendria” of “Fantasy”, which is the name of my fantasy campaign. Rinse and repeat, let me integrate the specifically planned characters. I think you catch my drift.
Maybe I wanna sort all characters specifically under their class tabs (like all clerics in one, all warlocks in one, all custom class XYZ in one). Maybe I want to sort them under specific gender or age tabs. Maybe I want to sort them under personality tabs.
Same for Items for example: let me add custom tabs so that I can sort Potions under Potions, Weapons under Weapons, Armor under Armor etc. Or like with the characters Campaign-specific. Let me sort my “Yamato”-Items under one tab and my “Iskendria”-Items under another. Just let me hide them kind of so that not everything overwhelms me. Yeah I know there is a search-function but I for example do not know every D&D-Item name, so I can*t search for things I do not know they even exist. Let me sort them for myself, thank you.
Same with spells: let me sort them with the help of custom tabs under specific elements, or martial technics or classes or campaigns.
I might use them in other campaigns with similar themes as well so to have them all stored in one place is super helpful, especially if we can integrate them rather fast with the “From Workshop”-Button.
Request Nr. 3: Potions & Healing Items - let me tell the database in more detail IF they are healing items or not and what they do exactly.
At the moment Potions and Healing Items are a bit problematic. We can name them and describe what they do. But for example I can*t tell the database how much my Healing Balm or Healing Tea will heal the player and what they should roll after drinking them.
Antidotes or other potions like Anti-Stun, Anti-Blindness oder Anti-Petrification Pots do not really work either because it is kinda not recognized what is written in their description.
Another problem: Although optional, I am forced to put them into a specific equipment slot. Otherwise it will not be saved. Because there is no specific “Potions”-Slot, I have to put them under “Ammunition”. For classes like Rogues or Alchemists or Rangers this is problematic, because they need the “Ammunition”-Slot for their Smoke Bombs, Arrows or Elixiers.
Request Nr. 4: If I use the SRD 5e-Ruleset let me be able to use just some of the Items, Spells, Classes or Races and let me delete everything else which I do not need or want.
Although the system tells me that I deleted things, they stay there and will not go away.
