I like to play with class features and just manually manage things. In my experience so far, aside from Cantrips, it’s not at all feasible to manually manage class features that interact with spellcasting.
There are various barriers that are in the way.
Access to spells that are not normally on my spell list
Additional prepared spells that are specifically chosen by the class feature
Class Features that consume spell slots (let us manually correct how many spent/unspent spell slots we have, the current system is just a blanket reclaim all).
While the current system streamlines the more fundamental DnD5e rules, I think at the end of the day Friends & Fables will always thrive on player agency. The player’s own agency to police their own games, and play with class features despite Friends & Fables having no built in system to support them aside from Franz’s own ability to roll with what the player says they do.
Currently I just do not engage with the provided spellcasting system because the existing UI doesn’t allow me to manually manage my class features that interact with spellcasting. So I keep track of my all my spellcasting details completely externally.
*Sorry for another similar post but I see many posts that focus on a specific part of what I’m describing here. At the end of the day however, I think all these posts ultimately want the same thing - Complete player agency in “correcting” their character sheet’s spellcasting related things.
