Problems when up-casting a spell

I used the chat to tell Franz to cast Guiding Bolt (a level 1 spell) using a level 2 spell slot. It did, and charged me a level 2 slot. After I hit, it said I needed to roll 4d6 damage (but this should be 5d6 due to casting as a level 2) and charged me another level 2 spell slot.
