Can't equip weapons on any character

Can't equip weapons on any character on any world, even new campaigns I start and as soon as I unequip a weapon I can not equip it or any other weapon in the characters hands. It doesn't even show the option and if it is a weapon from the base assets it just immediately enters the edit item screen when I click it. clothing and armor work as they should.
