Issue with combat system

I have been playing Friends and Fables since yesterday, and I’ve been loving it. But I have yet to successfully complete even a single combat encounter. I’ve tried a bunch of different campaigns, classes, etc., but it always gets stuck at some point, and refuses to resolve. Franz is also wildly inconsistent about how or when he will follow 5E rules, and when he will invent something. He’ll also constantly skip turns, make the incorrect characters perform actions, or tell me I can’t do something when I very much can. All of this happens even when I have turn based mode turned off.

Is there any way to just switch to a completely narrative-based combat system?
