I was so skeptical of an AI DM, and so impressed with how well it actually works! One recurring point of friction is that it sometimes struggles to advance the story or change the situation after a response or even an action from a PC.
I’d be curious to know if implementing elements of a system like FiTD would fix this - essentially, when a PC does something risky, force a roll - on a ‘good’ result, give the PC what we think they are trying to achieve, on a ‘mixed’ they get it, but some new complication is introduced, on a ‘fail’ they take some kind of harm (physical, reputational, relational - harm can be a broad category) or their situation changes to get riskier). FiTD has a little more nuance around the ideas of harm and position, but that’s basically it. Essentially, the mechanic boils down to, “When a PC tries to do something, the situation has to change somehow,” and this forces the narrative to keep evolving.
