Still supporting at the Legend level. In frustration, stepped away a few months ago. Figured some of the more critical roadmap items would’ve been knocked out by now. But it’s still very much unplayable.
Below is my list of Festivus Grievances (constructive criticisms).
No import option from the variety of character editors that exist (dndbeyond json files for example).
The "Create Character" interface is clunky, inaccurate, and time consuming (AC calculation is still hit or miss—magic armor bonus is typically calculated twice, for example).
Still no proper mapping of subclasses—this is huge. My players hate this problem.
Class and spell progression are most certainly not following either 2014 or 2024 rules (Arcane Trickster spells progression for example).
Skills: no handling of expertise or half-proficiency…this makes a huge difference in the success or failure of a party.
Zero handling of feats. Feats are vital to this game—period. I won’t waste any more time playing here until we have feat mechanics.
Missing common racial immunity mappings. For instance, elves being immune to magical sleep is impossible to designate.
Missing so many common items from the SRD (basic starting equipment stuff...arcane focus, etc).
No multi-add items...painful to build a character hunting through the SRD and praying for a match.
And when you’re unable to find a common SRD item, and forced to create it manually, very common things like fixed attack and damage bonuses don’t exist.
Ammo weight to quantity not matching up from SRD (for example 1 crossbow bolt weighs 2 lbs???).
No “export character to workshop” option for re-use in other campaigns…meaning you have to repeat this frustrating headache every time you want to play the same character in another campaign.
While I’m sure the tweaks you have made to the AI are fun to work on, your subscribers at some point are all going to jump ship if you can’t deliver an experience that bridges the AI with the much less open to interpretation understanding of game mechanics. We don’t need Franz narratively abandoning rules all the players already know and love. It just pisses everyone off. For example, when enemies flee through solid walls, and then we have to explain to Franz for the next 10min how movement works, which it then of course forgets for every subsequent combat encounter…
Having an obnoxious, flighty chatbot is the easy part in 2025. Training your chatbot to incorporate thousands of pages of complex lore and game mechanics at every prompt is not. You might have to take a different approach and offload the game mechanics to a less hallucination prone MCP server that Franz could reference when non-narrative operations arise…think of it like the MCP servers we already have to offload math related portions of prompts, since LLMs suck at math.
My last bit of advice: if you can’t--or don’t want to, work on giving us a usable character sheet, start working on a way to import people’s public character sheets from remote API calls…maybe let WotC properly host and track our character sheets, calculations, inventories, FEATS, and spells.
I lied. Truly last bit of advice: Those Friend and Fables shorts on YouTube are cringe. Show more actual game play instead. Thanks.
