Ability to Alter Scale of Map Distance

I was playing Forgotten Realms (Fan made) and my character went from Candlekeep to almost to baldurs gate in 1.3 kilometers I think it was. I played baldurs gate #1 as a kid and something tells me that should've been 10x the distance at minimum. But can't find any way to alter the distance scale of the map. To make 1 square = much more distance. This is a gigantic map with lots and lots of stuff going on, so just expanding the map doesn't seem like an optional. Need to be able to adjust the distance scale.
